Rules

This page describes the by laws of  courses. General rules for my classes are listed below:
You may find detail information about the conventions followed in text here (please read this first).

Registration

We will benefit from different cloud platforms for effective communication and collaboration in the class. Online registration to the class from these platforms are mandatory (as long as we have access to internet and to platforms listed here). You need to obtain a google mail (gmail) address for this purpose. If you already own one, you may continue to use that mail address however, a new mail address with the following format is advised:

[student nr.][surname]@gmail.com
i.e.: 1122334455ercoskun@gmail.com

Attendance

Students are required to present their assignments (and design development where applicable) every week. According to the rules of the university, you have to participate in a minimum of 80% of the class hours  (meaning you may miss only 3-three classes out of 15-fifteen to be eligible to pass the course) Students who do not meet the attendance requirement will be notified as unsuccessful, and will not be eligible to take the final exam and/or submit design project.

However, because of its effect on the grading system one more miss is allowed (with a total of 4-four misses) regarding the extraordinary situations. One miss will cost you 2.5 pts. over the final grade (over 100 full pts.) Thus if you miss four times you got “Ø” for attendance. If you go negative, your final note becomes “F” no matter the score(s) you got from home works, juries, exams etc.

Grading

Distribution of points is as the following:
Attendance : 10%
Homework and Assignments : 20%
Exercises and Studio critics : 25%
Mid-Term Jury/Examination : 15%
Final Jury/Examination : 30%

Basic Terminology

What is the difference between taking courses, classes or lessons? The following vocabulary is used in the content of this blog: Course is the broadest term for the study of a subject. It could be used to refer to an entire degree program, but it is most appropriately applied to a specific subject such as Construction Science and Technology OR Computer Aided Architectural Design, etc. Class is more specific and is most properly applied to a section of a course taught by one instructor to one group of students at a certain scheduled time. Lesson (or Lecture) is the most specific and implies a particular unit of instruction, such as would be delivered by a particular instructor to a particular class on a given day. Below information is necessary for those who are unfamiliar with the terminology in their mother tongue: Construction is the process, art, or manner of constructing (connecting pieces of a real world entity or system within a predefined structure and rule set) ...
